The quality of retirement homes really does vary from town to town and across the country. A great deal of these are private homes, but there are lots that rely wholly on funding from the government as well. An impartial organization called The Care Trust have criticised the government-run homes however saying that the quality and standard of a majority of them was not up to scratch and needed attention.

The government have responded to these claims by stating that they aim to increase their spend on retirement home maintenance by 15% over a five year period. The money will be spent on getting new white furniture into the homes and improving the overall interior design and decorations to both modernise and brighten up the buildings.

Alister Pride from The Care Trust stated that it definitely wasn’t an issue of not having high enough standards of cleanliness. “We had no issue with tidiness or hygiene in the retirement homes” explained Pride. “We just felt the many homes had not kept up with the times and the décor was very drab”. This is not the kind of environment that people want to live in, and unlike most people, those living in retirement homes have little control over decoration. He continued to say that they were very happy that the government had listened to their recommendations and they look forward to seeing the improvements.

The way the government has decided to tackle the problem is by creating specialist teams of designers and decorators to visit the homes. “We didn’t want the money just draining away, which might have happened if we had just increased the retirement home’s budgets” said a government spokesman. These teams will visit the homes over the next 5 years and bring in new furniture like bedroom furniture. They will also be implementing colour schemes into the buildings and replacing old and decrepit items with new pieces like bedside tables and dining chairs.

If you think you know for sure the color you will be using in your next home improvement plan, then think again. Changing walls and wooden objects can use a couple of sound advices, so here are some.

1. You want to change the wall colors? Start by testing the color of the paint by marking a line on an object you can easily move, but that is similar to a dried wall, then look at the color from different angles and during different periods of the day. The differences daylight can add to a certain color are amaizing. The profoundness of the color also varies depending on the surface it’s applied on and the light it that illuminates it.

2. The walls should always be in the same color as the ceiling, but a shade darker. Consider painting carpentry objects is the darkest tone. To emphasis the contrast, you should use for carpentry oil based paints.

3. Always ask for material and color samples from carpenter before they start building your new furniture. Also, do not shop for floors or carpets and other decorative materials without seeing real life samples.

4. Don’t forget about the focal points, that are usually red, and can be anything, even a small object. This can be a flower vase of a dark red or even a soft toy bear placed on an armchair or a red used baldwin baby grand piano.

Don’t underestimate the power of white walls. Of course, there are many cases in witch white walls leave the impression of a hospital room that doesn’t have anything to say, but that’s because white simply reflects the other deign aspects present there. As the white of a wedding dress can be so different from one dress to the other, so can be the white wall paint you can buy. If you’ve chosen white as your dominant color for one room, you can easily enrich the space, by adding furniture pieces in various colors. And don’t forget white, as well as black, never fall out of fashion. Mixing a white ceiling with some dusty white walls and bright accents can really a bring special modern aspect to a room.
