I tried a little sanding and applying Old English. It did not “take”. Do I need to sand more?

is it real wood veneer? with a wood veneer, you are better off trying to strip it with a chemical stripper. If you sand through the this veneer, (its like 1/16 of an inch thick) your fisnished product will look bad. And you just cant effectively stain plastic veneer..
